The First Holy Communion of a child marks a high point in the journey of Christian initiation. Every effort must be made in catechesis to help the communicant see First Communion as the beginning of a Eucharistic life." - Many Gifts One Spirit, Archdiocese of Seattle Policies
Preparation for First Holy Communion
Children's Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are based at Sacred Heart. Preparation for First Reconciliation begins in Fall 2019 and preparation for First Holy Communion begins after the New Year in 2020. To receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, the child must have completed Faith Formation classes the previous school year, and must be attending Mass regularly. We are pleased to again be using the "Blessed" Program from Dynamic Catholic for First Holy Communion preparation. Program videos which tie in to the books can be found HERE.
If your child has not yet received these sacraments (including the Sacrament of Baptism) and he or she is beyond second grade, please call the Parish Office to arrange for preparation.
Adult Preparation: Baptized but un-catechized adult Catholics who have never been prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation are to be prepared for Reconciliation prior to their reception of First Eucharist. The pastor must verify proper preparation prior to a child's or adult's reception of the sacrament. If you are a baptized adult Catholic who has never received preparation for First Reconciliation (Confession) or First Communion, please contact Debbie Adams at firstname.lastname@example.org.
